In legend Orion was a hunter who fought Taurus the bull. It's lead star is Betelgeuse, a red supergiant which is so much larger than The Sun that if it were to be placed where the Sun lies now it would completely engulf all of the planet up to and beyond the orbit of Mars. However, Betelgeuse is not Orion's brightest star. That position falls to Rigel.
